Los Angeles, CA – November 22, 2025 – Chetan Patil of Patil Law, P.C., a securities fraud attorney, is investigating Brian James Zimmerman (CRD# 2401501), a broker and investment advisor registered with Independent Financial Group, LLC. According to FINRA records, Zimmerman faces 6 customer complaints with total damages of approximately $215,000 in settlements and arbitration awards, plus $125,000 in a pending claim. Zimmerman has been registered with Independent Financial Group in San Diego, California since April 2012, doing business as Zimmerman Private Wealth Management.
The most recent complaint, filed in September 2025, alleges Zimmerman failed to explain the risks associated with an investment in ARC Healthcare Properties, a real estate investment trust (REIT), resulting in substantial losses for the customer. The pending FINRA arbitration (Case No. 25-01910) seeks damages of $125,000. The complaint alleges the customer was decimated by losses sustained from Zimmerman’s investment recommendations while serving as a representative of Independent Financial Group.
An earlier complaint filed in 2014 alleged Zimmerman engaged in negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, violations of FINRA rules regarding fair dealing with the public, failure to supervise, misrepresentation and omissions, fraud, excessive trading and churning, and breach of contract while at Liberty Partners Financial Services. The complaint involved equity and options trading and sought damages of $128,405.50. In March 2016, a FINRA arbitration panel awarded the customer $20,000, which Zimmerman personally paid. In his broker statement, Zimmerman described the claims as false and misleading, noting the client had both a conservative retirement account and an aggressive trading account, and the claim ignored net gains on total assets managed.
A complaint filed in November 2013 alleged Zimmerman recommended an unsuitable variable annuity that resulted in losses from January 2009 to October 2011 while at Liberty Partners Financial Services. The complaint sought $39,950in damages and settled in January 2016 for $10,000, personally paid by Zimmerman.
A complaint filed in October 2011 alleged excessive fees and poor returns on equity and mutual fund investments while Zimmerman was with Liberty Partners Financial Services. The complaint alleged $200,000 in damages and settled in February 2012 for $40,000, personally paid by Zimmerman.
Two earlier complaints from 2000 and 2001 involved allegations of churning, unauthorized trading, breach of fiduciary duty, and negligence while Zimmerman was registered with Andrew Garrett Inc. These matters resulted in an arbitration award of $15,234 and a settlement of $36,000, both paid by the firm with no individual contribution from Zimmerman.
According to FINRA records, Brian James Zimmerman has 32 years of experience in the securities industry.
